FRI Stream Spring Course Registration
- Research Stream Placement. Students are placed into a stream during Stream Sort and will be provided with additional registration information and instructions via email.
- Registration. Course meeting time, course credit options and course requirements vary by stream and are subject to change.
- Course & Time Commitment. Most streams also require a lab component that is included with the course credit offered, but does not show a meeting time on the spring & fall course schedules. Reserve time in your weekly schedule to attend lab, in addition to the meeting time indicated for each stream (below).

INFORMATION FOR BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (BS) IN CHEMISTRY ONLY:
The following streams offering CH204 credit are APPROVED* for Chemistry Majors to satisfy CH317 requirement in the Chemistry Degree Plan:

- Bioprospecting
- Materials in Color
- Supra Sensors
- Urban Ecosystems
The following streams offering CH204 credit WILL NOT COUNT* toward the CH317 requirement:
- Aptamer
- Biobricks
- Biomanufacturing
- DIY Diagnostics
- Gene Networks
- Microbe Hackers
- Virtual Cures
**This DOES NOT apply for BSA in Chemistry.
Q Drop Information
We encourage you to connect with your Research Educator (RE) before considering a Q-drop! They may be able to help you get back on track, especially if you reach out early.
If you decide to leave your FRI stream after the 12th class day, you will need to submit a Q-drop request before the university’s Q-drop deadline, which typically falls around the middle of the semester. Please refer to the academic calendar for exact dates.
Please keep the following in mind:
- If your FRI enrollment includes two courses (such as CH204 and NSC109), each course requires its own Q-drop. Both sections must be dropped if you leave the stream.
- If you miss the Q-drop deadline, you will not be able to use the One-Time Exception (OTE) to drop both courses. The OTE can only be applied to one class, so it is important to make your decision before the initial deadline if possible.

CNS students are required to complete the six hours of Texas Core Code 010 Communication hours. For more information, review guidance here and/or check with your advisor.
