Being on the FRI waitlist means you've completed an FRI application and may be placed in a Research Stream if a seat becomes available. Each year, placements are made from the waitlist, and there are important steps you can take to stay informed. Unfortunately, not all students from the waitlist will receive a stream placement.
**Are you an Upper-level or Transfer student? You are invited to apply for an advanced ARI stream (Spring) or a volunteer internship with an FRI Stream (Summer).
-
What to Do When You're on the Waitlist
- Be patient and stay engaged! While you're on the FRI waitlist, we encourage you to take time to explore opportunities through the CNS Office of Experiential Learning and other programs across campus.
- Monitor your UT email! Updates (including stream sort information) will be sent to your UT email (beginning in October during the fall semester).
- Important Note: Waitlist Status Updates Unavailable. We’re not able to provide individual waitlist status updates at this time, but all students on the waitlist will be contacted to complete the stream sort form in October.
-
October - January: Stream Sort
- Stream Sort Form (Fall Semester, October). Waitlisted students will be invited to fill out a stream sort form where you’ll submit your stream preferences (stream placement is not guaranteed).
- Stream Placement Updates (Spring Semester, January). As seats in streams become available, waitlisted students may be placed in a stream and notified with next steps for stream course registration up until the first day of the spring semester. Unfortunately, not all students on the waitlist may receive a stream placement.
- Didn’t receive a stream placement? Don’t worry! FRI is just one of the many programs and activities to get involved in undergraduate research and other hands-on learning across campus. Upper-level and transfer students are invited to apply for a volunteer summer internship with an FRI stream or an advanced ARI stream.
Stay Connected & Explore Experiential Learning
Whether you're currently on the waitlist or didn't receive a stream placement, we encourage you to discover experiential learning and other opportunities at UT. Exploring your options and interests can help you build skills and stay connected as you move forward.
