The Freshman Research Initiative offers first year students the opportunity to initiate and engage in authentic research experiences in chemistry, biochemistry, nanotechnology, molecular biology, physics, astronomy and computer sciences while being supported and mentored by faculty and graduate students.

Aptamer Stream Students Receive Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship and Internship

 

Dara Goral (Aptamer Stream student) received a position in the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program in the Department of Molecular Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). Also, Matthew Forster in the Aptamer Stream was also awarded a position in the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program in the Department of Molecular Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) SURF is sponsored by the National Science Foundation. Shruti Singh, also of the Aptamer Stream was awarded an internship at the Summer Undergraduate Research Program for MD Anderson Cancer Research Center.

 

Virtual Drug Screening Stream Members Present Posters at NCUR Conference

Two members of the Virtual Drug Screening stream (Sadhana Balasubramanyam and Joshua Bantseev) attended the NCUR annual conference in Ogden, Utah hosted by Weber State University. The National Council on Undergraduate Research conference consists of all disciplines of research and is attended by 3,000 students and faculty. Joshua & Sadhana presented posters of their research on discovering inhibitors of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and also had the opportunity for some fun with skiing and hiking excursions. Joshua recently won a URF (Undergraduate Research Fellowship) through the University to continue his project.
