The Freshman Research Initiative offers first year students the opportunity to initiate and engage in authentic research experiences in chemistry, biochemistry, nanotechnology, molecular biology, physics, astronomy and computer sciences while being supported and mentored by faculty and graduate students.

Join Team FRI for the Longhorn Run

 

Join Team FRI at the annual Longhorn run! Visit this link to register, and choose a distance—2 mile or 10K. Important: Enter “FRI” in the line that says “Please List 1 student organization you are affiliated with.” You may then use the code  “STUDORG”  to get  $5 off of the race fee (code is case sensitive). If you have any questions, contact Dr. Eman Ghanem. Register before  Feb 13!

 

FRI Students Present at the ABRCMS Conference

Christina Pu, Sadhana Balasubramanyam, and Jose Olmos, mentors from the Virtual Drug Screening stream, presented at the ABRCMS conference in San Jose, California this past week. 

Congratulations to Ruoyi (Christina) Pu, who won a URF (undergraduate research fellowship) to present her work at the conference. 

Also, a special congratulations to Sadhana Balasubramanyam, who won a $250 award for her poster presentation on Tuberculosis inhibitors in the Biochemistry division.

FRI Student Presentations at the Rice Undergraduate Symposium

FRI students Hannah McDonald, Gubeom Nam, and Ankita Brahmaroutu (Aptamer stream) as well as Joey Olmos and Sadhana Balasubramanyam (Virtual Drug Screening Stream)  recently presented their research at the Rice Undergraduate Symposium. 

Congratulations to Joey Olmos for being awarding the Outstanding Structural Biology Presentation Award, one of four awards given to the students hosted by the Department of Biochemistry & Cell Biology.

FRI Industry Open House

The annual Freshman Research Initiative Industry Open House will be held on October 24th, 2012 from 1–4 PM. This is a great opportunity for invited industry to learn first-hand about the FRI program on the University of Texas at Austin campus. FRI Picnic Rescheduled to this Friday, September 21st

We have reschedule the Freshman Research Initiative (FRI) Welcome Picnic for this Friday, September 21st, 5-7pm in the Anna Hiss Courtyard. New FRI students, you should have received an email with a link where you can RSVP. Please be sure to RSVP, and we hope to see you all there!
